This family! They make extended family photographs so easy. I photographed them a few years ago just before Christmas. This year, they would all be together again after traveling from Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Kentucky (one of the “L” cities. I don’t remember which one). It was a short weekend visit, but we were able to put together a quick photo session. And guess what? They’ll have two MORE babies joining them this year! So exciting!

One of my VERY favorite sessions from the Baby’s First Year Plan is the 3 month session. From my own experience, 3 month old babies don’t really do a whole lot. But they’re DARLING. They are just starting to smile well and interact with you and have typically put on some weight, making those cheeks just so darn cute. Moms aren’t usually as overwhelmed as they can be at a newborn session and are starting to get into more of a routine. But photographing them? I find doing a formal portrait session to be limiting. The solution? A lifestyle session. These sessions take place in your OWN home when you get to show me what life with your baby is like. The baby is typically more comfortable and relaxed and we are able to create photos that will be cherished forever. These are the photos that I look back on from when my kids were little and make me the most nostalgic. The Baby’s First Year Plan includes 5 photo shoots of the course of a year. Shouldn’t at least one of them be a lifestyle session?
One of the most memorable things about this particular photoshoot was when Rhea kept looking at her momma and smiling, which is darling in and of itself. But her DAD kept saying, “Are you looking at your momma? She’s pretty isn’t she?” Every new mom deserves to be spoken to that way. It’s those types of moments that really make me love my job.

This family might be one of my biggest weaknesses. These girls have the most genuine smiles and their mom knows just what to say and just what to do to get them. This was a fall MINI session. It ended up being not so mini. Oops. I have no self-control when it comes to these guys. See the featured image up there? It’s one of my favorite all time photos and I’m not sure it can ever be duplicated. So without further ado, feast your eyes on these darling photos.

April and I had talked for months about doing a photo session together. It just seemed really difficult to find a date where everyone would be available. Thankfully, we found one at the last minute and were able to capture these gems.

I love photographing this family! Their little guy has the sweetest and biggest smile EVER. Their daughter is a firecracker with boundless energy. I was shocked to see how quickly she bounced back after a fall and flashed me an enormous smile. One of the things I loved the most about this session was being able to give this little beauty the freedom she needed to be herself. Her mom and dad were so good with her and both children clearly bring much joy to their lives!

As baby Max’s first birthday approached, his mom came to me and said they needed to book a photography session. But they wanted to wait for the first snow fall of the season. It is REALLY hard for me to get out of my neighborhood if it snows. In order for this session to work, it had to snow enough to last for a day or two so I could dig myself out. They decided they would come to my house (this is my backyard) and would park the car and walk if necessary. How cool is that? Fortunately, they didn’t have to! It actually snowed this year and STUCK for more than an hour. What we didn’t calculate, unfortunately, is that our boots had NO traction. This mom and I crawled on our hands and knees up the hill and were so exhausted by the time we made it to the top that we were shoveling snow into our mouths. And then, five minutes later, someone had to pee. We convinced her to wait a few more minutes and she did. It was just long enough to get some really awesome shots.
We brought her inside and snapped a few more photos of her brother. He is not my biggest fan, but he really likes his daddy.
What a fun family! I’m so glad we were able to make this work! Here’s to lots more snow in the future!

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly these little babies grow up. I’m currently expecting my FIFTH baby. Having so many children really allows me the experience to appreciate that first year and how it can be gone in the blink of an eye. It doesn’t seem quite fair to me that these little ones are so darling during one of the most sleep deprived and haze-inducing years of your life. But yet, it is so WONDERFUL. Motherhood can be hard, but it doesn’t mean you can’t love it. Nothing is sweeter than photographing these first time parents and their baby during this first year. They are so proud of their baby and how much they have grown. And the Wolters family is no exception. It can be so hard moving to a new city where you don’t know anyone and then having a baby. But these guys always pull out their A game for photos. You can see Emery’s newborn photos here and her six month photos here.
Sweet Emery was NOT a fan of cake, so we decided to smash a watermelon instead. Which she loved. It is so obvious how much this little girl just loves life. She has so many happy years ahead of her and will bring so much joy to her parents!
