My friend Jennifer is really busy. So busy, in fact, that she hasn’t had a family photo in nearly FIVE years! Crazy! She finally decided that the session was long over due and we made time for a ten-minute front porch session. It was perfect. Her son was such a ham and his personality really shone through. And he got a popsicle when it was all over, so it was win-win for everyone.

One of my VERY favorite sessions from the Baby’s First Year Plan is the 3 month session. From my own experience, 3 month old babies don’t really do a whole lot. But they’re DARLING. They are just starting to smile well and interact with you and have typically put on some weight, making those cheeks just so darn cute. Moms aren’t usually as overwhelmed as they can be at a newborn session and are starting to get into more of a routine. But photographing them? I find doing a formal portrait session to be limiting. The solution? A lifestyle session. These sessions take place in your OWN home when you get to show me what life with your baby is like. The baby is typically more comfortable and relaxed and we are able to create photos that will be cherished forever. These are the photos that I look back on from when my kids were little and make me the most nostalgic. The Baby’s First Year Plan includes 5 photo shoots of the course of a year. Shouldn’t at least one of them be a lifestyle session?
One of the most memorable things about this particular photoshoot was when Rhea kept looking at her momma and smiling, which is darling in and of itself. But her DAD kept saying, “Are you looking at your momma? She’s pretty isn’t she?” Every new mom deserves to be spoken to that way. It’s those types of moments that really make me love my job.

This family might be one of my biggest weaknesses. These girls have the most genuine smiles and their mom knows just what to say and just what to do to get them. This was a fall MINI session. It ended up being not so mini. Oops. I have no self-control when it comes to these guys. See the featured image up there? It’s one of my favorite all time photos and I’m not sure it can ever be duplicated. So without further ado, feast your eyes on these darling photos.

My mom is one of nine kids and my dad is one of seven. I have a HUGE family. But growing up, there was one really special cousin that I always looked forward to playing with when we were growing up. We had so much fun together and I always talked her ear of about the cutest boys in my class and she always giggled politely….
…I recently had to apologize to her for that, because obviously boys aren’t her thing…
But she assured me it was okay because she didn’t know then, either.
We both went our separate ways as teenagers and without social media, it was hard to connect. She went to California and fell in love, got married and had a baby. Now her wife is expecting a baby boy in early 2016. When my mom planned a family reunion, she asked me if I would photograph her family! Of course I said, YES! But I did let her know that I was a little worried because I have never photographed a same-sex couple before. She told me that it was fine and to just treat them like any other family. So I did. And it wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be. In fact, I ended up chatting her ear off again and asking all sorts of questions that were probably way too personal considering it had been at least a decade since we saw each other last. But, you know what? When I got in the car, my first thought was, “What a lucky little girl.” She has two mothers who love each other deeply and absolutely adore her.

Most of my clients are either friends or referrals from other clients. Just over a year ago, I got a call to do a newborn session for someone that had just moved here and didn’t know anybody that I know. After being a little nosy, I found out that her dermatologist had recommended me to her (along with several other photographers). Several months later, I struck up a conversation with another mom at the Kingsport Public Library storytime. After speaking for a little while, she told me she’s a dermatologist. Not just any dermatologist, but THE dermatologist. I had photographed the baby of one of her friends and she liked my work. We became friends and are even in a book club together now. So fun. Her little baby is due in THREE days and they’re not finding out if it’s a boy or a girl. Personally, I can’t handle surprises, so I admire anyone who can stand the suspense! This maternity session ended up being more of a family session, but there are some really sweet ones in here!

If you have been following my blog at all, you know that I have been working with Dr. Merrill of Archway Chiropractic. He specializes in Pregnancy and Child Chiropractic. For a very long time, his walls have been empty as he starts up his practice. They are empty no more! We took his girls out for a fun photo shoot with all of their favorite costumes! They had so much fun and I think these photos are just adorable! They are so neat displayed in his waiting room. If you need a chiropractor, check him out. This is his website and you can find him on facebook.

Three month old photography sessions are some of my very favorites! Because the babies at this age aren’t really doing a whole lot, other than smiling, I prefer to do a lifestyle session at their home. A lifestyle photography session is when I just kind of hang out with you during the day and capture some of your favorite things to do together as a family. It is so fun to go into someone’s home and see how they interact with each other in the environment they are most comfortable in. This family has such a pretty home and some really fun photos on their walls (including some of mine, which is always really neat to see). Their four year old is such a ham and totally adores his sister! Emmaline is a baby plan baby. You can see her newborn photos here and here mom’s maternity photos here.
