This family might be one of my biggest weaknesses. These girls have the most genuine smiles and their mom knows just what to say and just what to do to get them. This was a fall MINI session. It ended up being not so mini. Oops. I have no self-control when it comes to these guys. See the featured image up there? It’s one of my favorite all time photos and I’m not sure it can ever be duplicated. So without further ado, feast your eyes on these darling photos.

Most of my clients are either friends or referrals from other clients. Just over a year ago, I got a call to do a newborn session for someone that had just moved here and didn’t know anybody that I know. After being a little nosy, I found out that her dermatologist had recommended me to her (along with several other photographers). Several months later, I struck up a conversation with another mom at the Kingsport Public Library storytime. After speaking for a little while, she told me she’s a dermatologist. Not just any dermatologist, but THE dermatologist. I had photographed the baby of one of her friends and she liked my work. We became friends and are even in a book club together now. So fun. Her little baby is due in THREE days and they’re not finding out if it’s a boy or a girl. Personally, I can’t handle surprises, so I admire anyone who can stand the suspense! This maternity session ended up being more of a family session, but there are some really sweet ones in here!

If you have been following my blog at all, you know that I have been working with Dr. Merrill of Archway Chiropractic. He specializes in Pregnancy and Child Chiropractic. For a very long time, his walls have been empty as he starts up his practice. They are empty no more! We took his girls out for a fun photo shoot with all of their favorite costumes! They had so much fun and I think these photos are just adorable! They are so neat displayed in his waiting room. If you need a chiropractor, check him out. This is his website and you can find him on facebook.

Last December I made the decision to join a project 52. What does that mean? It means that I have been taking a photo of my family doing “ordinary everyday” things once a week for the last five and a half months. Local photographer Carey Pace spearheaded the project and gives us a weekly theme. I won’t lie, it’s been difficult. Keeping up with a personal project while dealing with life in general isn’t easy. But it has been so worth it. I have hesitated to share them here because not all of them are portfolio worthy, but I do believe it is worthwhile to show you what I’ve been working on. The whole project has been good for me, actually. There have been so many times that I’ve NOT taken a photo of my kids because the light wasn’t right, or because my house wasn’t clean enough, or my kids’ clothes were dirty or didn’t match, or they weren’t wearing any (I chose to not include those ones online). I’ve been much more conscious of the necessity to just photograph them anyway. Sometimes I get so caught up in daily life that I forget that there is beauty in the everyday. If there is anything I’ve learned during the ten and a half years I’ve been a parent, it is that everything goes by so quickly. I know it is cliche and you’ve probably heard it a thousand times, but I’ll say it anyway: Although the days are long, the years are short. That simple statement makes me treasure these photos (even the imperfect ones). If you move your mouse over each photo, it should tell you what the theme was.

Hard to believe this little guy is one already! He’s simply darling and I get to see him every Sunday at church. His mom made the backdrop for the cake smash and then she gave it to me when were were done 🙂 I adore it. It’s so fun! I think the colors are perfect for a little boy. It was actually freezing outside the day we did the cake smash, so we did family photos another day. He was such a little ham. I wanted to take him home with me. Check out the tractor they brought!Read More

This darling family moved to Kingsport a little over a year ago. Our girls really hit it off and have had a LOT of fun together. Sadly, mine started Kindergarten this year and their little girl isn’t quite as old as she is. They haven’t seen as much of each other as they would like. Anyway, I have really enjoyed getting to know the mother! I think she’s kind of fascinating. I was really excited when she asked me to photograph them (even if her husband didn’t seem to share the same excitement). By the time the session was over, though, I think I won him over. These kids were so adorable and so sweet. It wasn’t even hard to get those photos. At all. Seriously.
