This family might be one of my biggest weaknesses. These girls have the most genuine smiles and their mom knows just what to say and just what to do to get them. This was a fall MINI session. It ended up being not so mini. Oops. I have no self-control when it comes to these guys. See the featured image up there? It’s one of my favorite all time photos and I’m not sure it can ever be duplicated. So without further ado, feast your eyes on these darling photos.

Do you remember Austin and Lindsy? About this time last year we were planning to do their engagement photos and were HOPING for some snow. We all know how HARD it can be to get snowy photographs here in Northeast Tennessee. It doesn’t snow very often and when it does, it rarely stays. I live way out in the county and my roads don’t get plowed often and even when they do, there’s usually a thin layer of ice that remains on the road. I pretty much can’t leave for a few days until it warms back up and all the snow melts. So we were SOOO happy last year when the snow lasted long enough for photos! You can see that session here. They were married just a few short months later and she planned the most amazing and classy Disney themed wedding. I loved getting to know them and their wonderful families. Fast forward a few short months after the wedding and she tells me they’re having a baby! How amazing is that! After coordinating work schedules, we picked a weekday in January. And it snowed. And the snow STAYED. In fact, I was shocked when I pulled up to the location we had chosen and there was still snow on the ground. It made me a little nervous, seeing as we are actually BOTH expecting babies (a baby girl for her and a baby boy for me). She was 31 weeks pregnant here and I was 13 weeks. But it had rained the day before and the snow was no longer slippery. It was actually kind of gross and crusty, the kind of snow those of us who grew up in snowy places remember and loathe. Thankfully, however, it created the perfect texture for walking on and we ended up with some beautiful photographs.
I surprised myself and became sentimental during this session. She is expecting her first and I am expecting my fifth. Yes, that’s a lot of children, I know. There is something so special about that first baby. The newness of it all is so exciting and wonderful. I remember feeling so unsure of myself as a mother. One of my greatest concerns the first time around was that I wouldn’t like my baby. I had never really looked forward to being a mother and I didn’t know what to expect. I remember holding him in my arms for the first time and thinking he was the cutest baby I had ever seen. I realized very quickly that my fears were unfounded. My child was darling and I was so PROUD of him. I wanted everyone to see him and I didn’t stop smiling for months. Everything he did was perfect and made all those sleepless nights worth it. Motherhood can be hard, but it doesn’t mean you can’t love it.
All of those feelings and emotions came back to me while talking with Lindsy and Austin. They have so much to look forward to during the next few years and I was a little sad to think that the newness has worn off for me. She looks so amazing (as usual) and he simply adores her. One thing I know for certain, this little lady is going to be blessed with some seriously gorgeous genes and parents who will adore her.

Sweet Emmaline was sick just before these photos. But she was so sweet and so smiley for me! Nine month olds are quickly becoming one of my favorite ages to photograph. They’re SOOO darling. Emmaline has rested on her mom’s shoulder like this in EVERY session of hers I’ve photographed. Goodness she’s cute.

April and I had talked for months about doing a photo session together. It just seemed really difficult to find a date where everyone would be available. Thankfully, we found one at the last minute and were able to capture these gems.

I love photographing this family! Their little guy has the sweetest and biggest smile EVER. Their daughter is a firecracker with boundless energy. I was shocked to see how quickly she bounced back after a fall and flashed me an enormous smile. One of the things I loved the most about this session was being able to give this little beauty the freedom she needed to be herself. Her mom and dad were so good with her and both children clearly bring much joy to their lives!

As baby Max’s first birthday approached, his mom came to me and said they needed to book a photography session. But they wanted to wait for the first snow fall of the season. It is REALLY hard for me to get out of my neighborhood if it snows. In order for this session to work, it had to snow enough to last for a day or two so I could dig myself out. They decided they would come to my house (this is my backyard) and would park the car and walk if necessary. How cool is that? Fortunately, they didn’t have to! It actually snowed this year and STUCK for more than an hour. What we didn’t calculate, unfortunately, is that our boots had NO traction. This mom and I crawled on our hands and knees up the hill and were so exhausted by the time we made it to the top that we were shoveling snow into our mouths. And then, five minutes later, someone had to pee. We convinced her to wait a few more minutes and she did. It was just long enough to get some really awesome shots.
We brought her inside and snapped a few more photos of her brother. He is not my biggest fan, but he really likes his daddy.
What a fun family! I’m so glad we were able to make this work! Here’s to lots more snow in the future!

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly these little babies grow up. I’m currently expecting my FIFTH baby. Having so many children really allows me the experience to appreciate that first year and how it can be gone in the blink of an eye. It doesn’t seem quite fair to me that these little ones are so darling during one of the most sleep deprived and haze-inducing years of your life. But yet, it is so WONDERFUL. Motherhood can be hard, but it doesn’t mean you can’t love it. Nothing is sweeter than photographing these first time parents and their baby during this first year. They are so proud of their baby and how much they have grown. And the Wolters family is no exception. It can be so hard moving to a new city where you don’t know anyone and then having a baby. But these guys always pull out their A game for photos. You can see Emery’s newborn photos here and her six month photos here.
Sweet Emery was NOT a fan of cake, so we decided to smash a watermelon instead. Which she loved. It is so obvious how much this little girl just loves life. She has so many happy years ahead of her and will bring so much joy to her parents!
