Nearly two years ago, one of my clients bought a newborn session for his sister in Knoxville. She has since become my self-proclaimed groupie and one of my greatest supporters. She has hired me to do extended family photos and has referred me to many people. This is her niece and her new husband! They were married in the LDS Nashville temple the morning of the big day (they got up at 5 am in order to do that). Guess who they saw as they were leaving the temple? David Archuleta from American Idol. He told them congratulations. Because photography is not allowed inside the building, they hired me just for a reception and ring ceremony later that day in Knoxville at Hunter Valley Farms. Exchanging rings is not part of the temple ceremony, so they were able to do that in front of their family and friends after her bishop gave some really heartwarming remarks. Finding a dress that is appropriate to wear in the temple can be a real challenge. This dress looked AMAZING on her and she actually had to build an entire top with sleeves so she would be covered. I think it turned out absolutely amazing. Her aunt did her hair and makeup and it was perfect. My favorite part of the night was when her dad surprised her with a song he wrote for her about how “I’ll always be your number two man.” It was the sweetest thing I had ever heard and I found myself tearing up…which I almost never do. The bride then surprised her groom with a lip sync to “Dear future husband” which was hilarious. What I learned from this wedding was how love really is all you need. Two of her bridesmaids had flights that were cancelled and were not able to make it and the bride ended up losing her voice. But their love shone through and it was a beautiful day!
Thank you, Maddy and Mack, for letting me photograph your wedding! Here’s to many happy years together!

A year ago I was contacted by “Judy from Indiana” about doing a small wedding for them at Carden’s bluff. They were going to invite only their son and daughter who would be renewing their wedding vows. It was a sweet little ceremony and they were so happy and so in love. You can see the photos here. Early this year, Ryan (the son) called and told me he wanted to surprise his wife with a first year anniversary shoot as they would be in the Smokies for their anniversary. Isn’t that the best anniversary gift ever?

My mom is one of nine kids and my dad is one of seven. I have a HUGE family. But growing up, there was one really special cousin that I always looked forward to playing with when we were growing up. We had so much fun together and I always talked her ear of about the cutest boys in my class and she always giggled politely….
…I recently had to apologize to her for that, because obviously boys aren’t her thing…
But she assured me it was okay because she didn’t know then, either.
We both went our separate ways as teenagers and without social media, it was hard to connect. She went to California and fell in love, got married and had a baby. Now her wife is expecting a baby boy in early 2016. When my mom planned a family reunion, she asked me if I would photograph her family! Of course I said, YES! But I did let her know that I was a little worried because I have never photographed a same-sex couple before. She told me that it was fine and to just treat them like any other family. So I did. And it wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be. In fact, I ended up chatting her ear off again and asking all sorts of questions that were probably way too personal considering it had been at least a decade since we saw each other last. But, you know what? When I got in the car, my first thought was, “What a lucky little girl.” She has two mothers who love each other deeply and absolutely adore her.

One day at church, Maureen came and sat next to me exclaiming, “Jennie. I need pictures.” “Okay, what kind of pictures do you need?” She proceeded to tell me that it was her 50th wedding anniversary and that it was ugly outside, so we would need to do them inside. So we did! They were so much fun and so much in love. They’ve visited nearly every continent together and have done years of missionary work in Chile. In fact, she made extra sure to not cover up his Chile flag pin on his lapel. Happy anniversary to you, two! Here’s to many more happy years together.

Most of my clients are either friends or referrals from other clients. Just over a year ago, I got a call to do a newborn session for someone that had just moved here and didn’t know anybody that I know. After being a little nosy, I found out that her dermatologist had recommended me to her (along with several other photographers). Several months later, I struck up a conversation with another mom at the Kingsport Public Library storytime. After speaking for a little while, she told me she’s a dermatologist. Not just any dermatologist, but THE dermatologist. I had photographed the baby of one of her friends and she liked my work. We became friends and are even in a book club together now. So fun. Her little baby is due in THREE days and they’re not finding out if it’s a boy or a girl. Personally, I can’t handle surprises, so I admire anyone who can stand the suspense! This maternity session ended up being more of a family session, but there are some really sweet ones in here!

Hello, there! Thanks for checking out my wedding photography portfolio. I know it’s looking a little thin. I have been so busy photographing this year that I haven’t had a chance to update my blog. I promise that I have photographed more than just a handful of weddings! I’m much better at updating my facebook page (http://facebook.com/denimandlacephotography) so be sure to check that out. I’m really hoping to show you some of these amazing weddings soon! If you are a potential bride and would like to see a complete wedding, I’d love to take you to lunch and show you some photos in person. You can also check out my full page spread in the September 2015 issue of The Pink Bride magazine for the Tri-Cities area.
Thanks for understanding!
