I am not a purist when it comes to lifestyle photography. But when it comes to my own children, it’s what I crave. My oldest child will be ten in just a few weeks and I’m kind of having a panic attack.
I’ve been a mother for a decade.
When I first started this adventure, I had no idea how quickly the years would pass and I feel like they’re slipping through my fingers. I had so many great plans for motherhood! Little did I know that many of those years would be spent in a sleepy haze. I learned that I don’t recover well from childbirth and after having FOUR children…I was just too tired to really treasure all of those little moments.
This is my youngest. She’s the only one home with me now and asks to go to Kroger every day. One day while doing our grocery shopping, I kept framing images in my head that I knew would make GREAT photographs! I keep having flashbacks of my oldest child when he was this age and I wish I would have documented it. So, after deciding that I wanted to do a photo shoot with her at the store, I simply had to wait until she wanted to go again. The photo shoot only lasted about 5 minutes, though, as I quickly realized that balancing a grocery cart, a two-year-old, and thousands of dollars worth of equipment was a little more difficult than I anticipated. I need to go back again with an assistant!
If you are interested in lifestyle photography, send me a message through the “contact me” link above! There are so many fun themes we could explore! Things that seem so mundane now will mean so much more to you in the future. These are not necessarily photographs you will want to blow up into big canvases, these are the ones you want to put together in an album to tell a story….and what a story they tell!

My sweet daughter turned eight years old recently (Okay, so it was really a long time ago. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to work on personal projects). I like to take each of my children out for a special photo shoot for their birthdays. It’s a lot of fun. We took a LONG hike to get to this field, but I think it was so worth it! By the time we were done, the fireflies came out!

Sweet baby James. He had NO desire to sleep. It’s a good thing I like his mom, because we were able to hang out for quite some time before he finally passed out (and then it was smooth sailing from there). Speaking of his mom, she is one of the best people EVER. She brings me flowers when my babies are born and will often show up at my doorstep with a freshly baked loaf of homemade bread. She’ll take my kids on a moment’s notice and once even ran over to my house when my car wouldn’t start, let me borrow her BRAND NEW VAN to run to the school, and then watched my kids until I got back. And she never lets me pay her. Not one cent….. This little boy is super lucky to have her as his mother!

While visiting my family in Utah this summer, my children OBSESSED over my brother and sister-n-law’s dog, Baron. The first thing they wanted to do when we went over was to see the “fluffy dog.” Baron had just torn his claw out a few weeks earlier and was wearing a cone on his head and a little shoe one his paw to protect it. But for some reason, his paw wasn’t healing. A few days later, we realized that he had been lifting his sore paw with his other paw and maneuvering in such a way as to get the shoe off and lick his wound. Hilarious. Except that I really wanted to photograph him and we were trying to wait until his paw had healed. And it was almost time for us to go home. So we decided to photograph him anyway and keep it short. It was crazy windy and we were worried about his paw, but I think it was totally worth it!

One of the perks of doing newborn photos for people you know is being able to see their pregnancy lived out on facebook. Let’s just say that this little guy has been GREATLY anticipated. His grandmother posted multiple updates about his entrance into the world (she was obviously tickled about her first grandchild). And he’s even had his own hashtag for quite a while. And he did not disappoint. He’s DARLING. His parents were so sweet and so proud and so in love with him! Yup, I love hanging out with new parents!
